Apparently this part of New Briggate is up for regeneration. But I quite like it as it is. A real mix of fried chicken shops, tattoo parlours, barbers and the last private tailors in the city centre. Drawn here before from the convenient Grand theatre steps. Got most of the near corner in from there, then finished the rest from home as it is still pretty cold for sitting about. Fountain pen, fine liner and a bit of neutral tint watercolour.
Loads of bits and bobs left over from my first bookbinding adventure. Together with a few sheets of nice Fabriano paper I bought years ago and not used. So I made another A5 ish small sketchbook. Wrapping paper for cover. I miscalculated the size of cover, so had to lop 3mm off the book block.
I needed a new sketchbook. So why not have a go at binding my own. Very enjoyable process. And very pleased with the result.
Fantastic venue, sketching from 6th floor of Minerva House on East Street yesterday.
Very challenging light sketching from 6th floor of Minerva House in Leeds.
A new concertina book of Vicar Lane. A few weeks work on and off. Two very cold trips into Leeds to start the pen sketch, and lots of work at home finishing it off. From 4 different viewpoints all on a single horizon I drew across the pages.
Started this early this week when it was a bit warmer. The lovely arcade on Parliament Street, Harrogate. Finished later and added colour at home. It is a lovely building that I have never really looked at before.
Enjoyed sketching in Selby Abbey this morning with Urban Sketchers Yorkshire. Couldn’t figure the perspective. The east end seemed to be at a different angle to the nave. Later found an old plan online. The whole east end is at a slightly different angle to the nave. Still a beautiful building.
Obviously not mine. But it is art.
